Upcoming MLC Presentations: Fiscal Sponsorship, Employment Law, Philanthropic Structures, and 990-PFs

I'm writing this quick post to share some upcoming presentations that our team members are doing. We don’t always remember to promote all the presentations that we do, but there are some interesting ones coming up, and we hope that some of our clients and friends may be able to check them out.

  1. Employment Law and Fiscal Sponsorship: Several of us are going to one our favorite conferences: the National Network of Fiscal Sponsors annual meeting in Atlanta from October 16 to October 18. There will be lots of great talks there, but our main event will me, Jade, and Daniel talking about employment law as it pertains to fiscal sponsors. A fun topic for us since it gives us a chance to mix our new MLC Employment practice with the fiscal sponsorship advice we have been providing for years. For those that can’t get make it (or inexplicably want more), Daniel and I will be talking about the same topic at Fiscal Sponsor Conversations at the November 12, 2024 session. (I’ll also be doing an “Ask Us Anything” panel at the NNFS meeting with our friend Erin Bradrick at NEO Law Group, which should be a lot of fun!).

  2. A Deep Dive Into Private Foundation Tax Reporting: Moss Adams, an accounting firm that does great work in our sector, is putting on a virtual (and free!) annual conference for private foundations on October 29, 2024. The agenda and speakers look great, and I’ll be speaking with Mike Lumsden from Moss Adams on the 990-PF and the intricate web of tax law that’s baked into it. A great for tax lawyers, accountants, and financial professionals that work with or for foundations.

  3. Cutting-Edge Philanthropic Gifting Structures. If you happen to live the fast and exciting life of a California tax lawyer, perhaps you’ll be at the California Lawyers Association’s annual meeting in Anaheim on November 9, 2024 where I’ll be on a panel talking about “cutting-edge structures in philanthropic gifting, considering, for example, the best structures for getting a private corporation to be charitably owned, the use of multiple business entities and philanthropic entities in creating optimal structures, and creative uses of split-interest trusts to achieve tax savings.” It’s a topic I have been speaking about it a lot these days, and always enjoy it, even if it is sometimes hard to hold back on the sarcasm/cynicism as to where the sector is headed.

We hope to see some of you all in the months ahead!
